British College of Osteopathic Medicine (BCOM) students and faculty members were at the Virgin London Marathon once again this year. Fourth year students provided post-race sports massage to team members running for the charities Bliss, Breakthrough Breast Cancer and Arthritis Research UK.
Mr Barry Kleinberg, Deputy Head of Osteopathy, Mr Tom Hewetson, Lecturer and Clinic Tutor, Ms Nicky Sharp, Lecturer and Clinic Tutor and Ms Poonam Shah, Lecturer, supervised the 15 clinical students who provided osteopathic treatment at the end of the London Marathon. Poonam Shah said: “It was a very successful day at the Marathon, the 4th year students had a blast! The athletes were all very impressed with their treatments.”
Sophie Major, Sports and Events Executive at Arthritis Research UK, praised BCOM’s “team of fantastic students” who supported the charity at the London Marathon.
Sophie said: “Feedback from the runners about the massages they received was 100% positive, which is great to hear. It was a really successful day for the charity; and (most importantly) our runners were all really happy and had a great day.”
