"The Board of Governors is pleased to announce that BCOM is starting a new validation and funding partnership arrangement with the University of Westminster. This will start from the new (September 2009) academic year. The new arrangement follows the comprehensive restructuring of the finances at London Metropolitan University that you may have seen in the press recently.

BCOM researchers Dr Heather Hinkley and Daphne Bird were at the Bristol Vegan Fayre recently offering free ultrasound foot scans as part of the College's ongoing research into the bone health of vegans. This year some of BCOM's final year students were on hand at the London Marathon to treat entrants running for Breakthrough Breast Cancer. Rachel Jones at Breakthrough Breast Cancer said:
"Thank-you so much to Dipak and the students that came and gave massages for Breakthrough Breast Cancer yesterday. They did such a brilliant job and all of our runners are so grateful for their help. I know it's helped to ease the aches and pains today! It would be wonderful if some of your students are able to help us again at next year's Marathon as we were so pleased to have them with us."

BCOM's busy admissions year continued recently at the UCAS Convention at London's Olympia. Academic Registrar Kasia Kowalska says, "This year, there was lots of interest in osteopathy courses at BCOM, particularly our new Masters in Osteopathy, so much so that there were hardly any prospectuses left!"

News for applicants: Since launching its publicly funded Masters in Osteopathy, BCOM has had one of its busiest admissions periods ever. Our Open Days have been very well attended. BCOM's brand-new four-year undergraduate masters, Masters in Osteopathy, has been validated by our partner institution, London Metropolitan University, and is available for September 2008 entry. This programme will attract public funding for eligible students. Anyone with concerns about ELQ (Equivalent and Lower Qualifications) and studying osteopathy should contact BCOM's Academic Registrar, Kasia Kowalska, for more information about how undergraduate masters courses can help them with public funding.

BCOM is delighted to announce that Privy Council has now confirmed that the result of its November 2007 General Osteopathic Council and the QAA Recognised Qualification review was to renew its accreditation for the maximum five years. It was especially gratifying to receive "approval without conditions" which is the best possible outcome for the process.

As part of this partnership, BCOM is proposing a new four-year undergraduate Masters in Osteopathy starting in September 2008 (subject to validation). As part of its new funding and validation relationship with London Metropolitan University, BCOM is delighted to announce that it is proposing to launch a new Masters in Osteopathy (M.Ost) subject to formal approval and formal notification on funding arrangements. This four-year integrated masters is proposed to be the degree for almost all BCOM students enrolling from 2008/9. It is expected that the degree will provide four years (the entirety of the programme) of public funding to students meeting the usual funding criteria. Students will be eligible to register with the General Osteopathic Council upon graduation, subject to approval.

BCOM and London Metropolitan University are pleased to announce that they are forming a validation and funding relationship, subject to ratification by their respective governing bodies and HEFCE. From September 2008, it is planned that eligible students enrolled on a range of BCOM courses will have their degrees validated by London Met and will be eligible for the usual public student funding, assuming they meet the relevant criteria.

BCOM will be running its popular BSc (Hons) Osteopathy Conversion Course for Diplomates this spring. This unique part-time degree course, which enrols new students regularly, allows Registered Practitioners with a Diploma in Osteopathy to "top up" to a full honours degree in under a year.

Welcome to the new BCOM website, developed in collaboration with our students to provide a more user-friendly and interactive space for visitors to learn about the College and its highly regarded courses. The College has also updated and greatly expanded its intranet Vesalius, in order to keep facilitating and maximising our students' learning experiences. As with the new site, students were integrally involved in the development of the new Vesalius. We hope that visitors will find the site useful, accessible and informative.
