The Students' Union

There is an active Student Union at the College that is affiliated to the National Union of Students and enables reduced price travel and various other benefits. The student-elected president and team have their own dedicated office within the student common room. End of year parties, inter-collegiate sporting activities and curry nights are just a selection of extra-curricular activities organised by the team.
The Student Union also participate fully in the academic life of the College and are represented in a number of important committees including the Course Committee, Student Liaison Committee and the President is invited to attend BCOM Board Meetings, acting as a liaison between students and Governors.
Student Welfare is also a key area of involvement. There is a strong network of support within the student body and the Student Union helps raise awareness of current national and local issues relevant to our students and helps with any problems that students may have. They are also involved in Open Days to discuss issues with prospective students and work collaboratively with the Registrar in producing an accommodation register.
Recreational Facilities
Students have their own Common Room and a communal games room with pool and table tennis tables, dartboard and coffee break facilities. A canteen located in the new building offers a daily health-conscious menu with breakfasts, hot meals and snacks served in a comfortable environment. The canteen's sociable atmosphere makes it a popular meeting place for students. University sports and other recreational facilities are also open to BCOM students.
Freshers Week
This is the first week of term at the College, and is structured to introduce students to the course, and to College life in general. The College Administration and Students Union prepare a programme of events to welcome students to BCOM.
The first day is scheduled for enrollment, financial administration and a formal welcome from the Principal and members of Faculty, culminating in an early evening social event.
Introductory lectures and practical Osteopathic classes begin on day two, together with an introduction to research and data collection within the BCOM ethos; day two is also geared to meeting Faculty and interacting with other peer groups of students.
Key members of staff involved in providing specific areas of student support e.g. Year Tutor, Registrar, College Counsellors are be on hand for dedicated advice during this week.
To facilitate this induction process the Student Union welcomes new students and prepares a varied programme of social events that help students familiarise themselves with College life at BCOM. So by week two you are feeling very much at home.
