Sunday 23rd April saw runners take to the closed streets of London to complete the 2017 Virgin Money London Marathon. A team of 11 BCOM students were at hand to give post-race care to runners for the charities Arthritis Research UK and Bliss.
Arthritis Research UK had 65 runners all with one aim: Everyday freedom from the limits of arthritis. Hannah, events fundraising officer at Arthritis Research UK says “A fantastic team from BCOM came along to provide massage support to the runners at the post-race party in the QEII which was gratefully appreciated by all the runners, including Pamela Relph, MBE 2 times Paralympic gold medal rower.
Each year BCOM are always professional, greet our runners with applause and make them feel comfortable and our runners look forward to the massage straight after they have finished – thank you to each and every student that supported us in 2017”.
Bliss is the UKs leading charity for babies born premature and sick, and the money raised on marathon day goes towards their work supporting parents and healthcare professionals, campaigning and supporting research. Frances Llewellin, Community and Events Manager said: “Bliss is delighted to have the support of BCOM students on marathon day to help aid our dedicated runners in their post-race recovery, ensuring we can give all our runners the care and attention they need after such a gruelling challenge.”
Well done to the runners and BCOM’s team of student volunteers!
