Research Excellence At BCOM

BCOM has an international reputation for research excellence. BCOM staff have extensive published research in osteopathic and medical journals and our research laboratory is unique to UK osteopathic institutions. As part of their degree, our fourth year students carry out a research project and present it to their fellow students, tutors and an examiner from our partner institution, The University of Plymouth. This research project is also submitted to journals for publication. This year, research project topics included:
– The characteristics and treatment outcomes of paediatric patients seen at an osteopathic teaching clinic
– The effects of physical therapy on freezing of gait in Parkinson’s Disease
– The effectiveness of cognitive behavioural therapy for non-specific chronic lower back pain
– The effects of dietary interventions in arthritic adults
– The incidence and severity of concussion in rugby: methods to reduce musculoskeletal injuries and long term health risks
– The effects of blood flow restriction training in athletes on muscle strength, muscle size and sport specific performance markers
