BCOM promotes a philosophy of Naturopathic Osteopathic Medicine which focuses on disease prevention by taking into account physical make-up, diet and other lifestyle factors.
Our holistic approach to osteopathy focuses on more than diagnosing and treating the structural and mechanical problems of the body. It encompasses looking at diet, lifestyle and mental well-being to restore the state of balance within the body.
Osteopathy is a patient-centred approach for a wide range of medical conditions.
Osteopathy is based on the principle that good health and a harmonious interrelation of the skeleton, muscles, ligaments and connective tissue are crucial to an individual’s well being.
Osteopathic care starts with the identification of the cause of the complaint and then uses soft tissue work and gentle physical manipulation. Appropriate self care advice is given on dietary intake, exercise, life-style, emotional and psychological well-being to improve function, aid health and reduce the risk of reoccurrence of the problem.
A naturopathic approach to medicine is a system of treatment and healthcare that supports the body’s ability to heal itself.
A naturopathic approach is a holistic system which believes in promoting a general state of wellbeing through dietary principles, lifestyle, exercise and mental wellbeing as an effective way to manage our physiological systems. In addition to physical treatment, BCOM’s students are taught to consider all these factors whilst managing a patient.
