Established in 1936, BCOM is one of the leading osteopathic colleges in the UK, renowned for its quality in education and being awarded ‘approval without conditions’ from the Quality Assurance Agency led ‘Recognised Qualification’ from the General Osteopathic Council for two consecutive reviews. BCOM’s degree course is validated by Plymouth University and is particularly regarded for its unique naturopathic approach to osteopathic care in its teaching and within its busy teaching clinic. The college fosters a strong research ethos into its students and graduates and was the founder of the International Conference on Advances in Osteopathic Research (ICAOR).

BCOM is seeking to appoint an Honorary Member for its Research Ethics Committee (REC).

The BCOM REC is an independent committee, whose task is to consider the ethics of proposed student research projects, which will involve human participants. Its key duty is to protect the interest of research participants whilst simultaneously facilitating ethical health care research. It is essential that the BCOM REC maintains a diverse membership consisting of academicians, researchers, statisticians and/or individuals with legal, healthcare and other relevant expertise so a wide variety of research can be addressed.

To be considered for this role, you should have qualification / experience in the area of medical statistics or research design and be available at least 3 – 4 times a year to attend REC meetings at BCOM campus in north-west London. This is an honorary position, however reasonable travel expenses or other agreed expenses incurred as part of the role, will be reimbursed by the college.
